2 DAY WORKSHOP - MET PIR AND MET RI
Improve your rehabilitation and treatment outcomes using Muscle Energy Techniques with this MET course bundle!
MET is a collective name of techniques that focus on stretching, strengthening and working with the nervous system.
This is a 2 day course combining:
MET has a number of uses:
- To reduce muscle hypertonicity
- To improve circulation
- To aid in the re-alignment of muscle fibres
- To lengthen a short or tightened muscle fibres
- To strengthen a physiologically weakened muscle or group of muscles
- To help restore proprioception within the muscles
Across the two days you’ll gain an understanding of the physiological effects of MET and the mechanism of the technique.

Day 1:MET PIR
This day will focus on applying MET PIR to the lower limb. It will give you:
- Develop your ability and understanding of when to apply passive and active MET to this area.
- Test range of motion for the hip, knee and ankle
- Understand the contraindications of this technique.
Day 2: MET RI
On day 2, our aims and objectives are to:
- How to safely and effectively apply MET RI to the upper limb.
- The ability to test range of motion for A/C, S/C and GH joints
- An understanding of the physiological effects of MET

2 WORKSHOP BUNDLE: NECK, JAW AND CHEST & TREATING THE SHOULDER
This is a bundle consisting of 2 x half day practical workshops and 2 x online courses. One workshop will take place in the morning, and the the other in the afternoon.
Both of these workshops are taught exclusively by NLSSM Director Susan Findlay.
NECK, JAW AND CHEST MASSAGE
This morning course will increase your confidence and allow you to develop the skills to deliver a more holistic treatment.
Whether you are working in the jaw or elsewhere, being observant and setting up a clear set of rules will increase the benefits to both you and your clients.
The course covers a variety of common pathologies and how to treat them effectively, such as Whiplash, Torticollis, TMJ and Headaches.
TREATING THE SHOULDER
In the afternoon, we will be looking at how to access the shoulder in its entirety.
You’ll learn classical assessment skills using a variety of movement tests and how to achieve effective, successful outcomes without brute force!
The course covers a variety of common pathologies and how to treat, such as Frozen Shoulder, Impingement and Rotator Cuff Tears and Susan will be offering creative suggestions that will bring a fresh approach to each treatment.

3 DAY WORKSHOP
This is a 3 day course combining:
Day 1: postural assessment
This day lays the foundation for understanding static posture outcomes using both conventional and hands on skills to gain a picture of your clients behaviour, it is about making sense of what you see and feel.
We use a variety of assessment tools to help you visualise and feel imbalances, but most importantly bringing your findings into your treatment, starting you thinking about how to approach your rehabilitation plan.
Day 2: biomechanics and biotensegrity
This day aims to help manual therapists understand the differences between biomechanical & biotensegrity principles to assess soft tissue dysfunction.
Learn techniques that are applicable in your clinic or practice straight away. This day aims to increase your observation & assessment skills and help you interpret this information in order to develop appropriate treatment plans and homecare.
Day 3: re-education methods in stretching and corrective exercises and homecare

Understand the mechanisms of soft tissue dysfunction as relevant to ROM.
