Anatomy Trains - Myofascial Meridians for Therapists

Anatomy Trains is a revolutionary new way of looking at the body developed by author and Rolfer, Tom Myers.  Anatomy Trains allows for easy analysis of whole body soft-tissue patterns and the development of strategies for unwinding them. The Anatomy Trains method is most effective for chronic, long lasting problems that persist despite standard, muscular based bodywork.

Want to learn how to get to the source of a problem?
Would you like to create more balance in your clients?

In this 2-day Anatomy Trains intensive you will:

  • Understand the nature of the fascial web
  • Learn how the fascial web is organized into 11 simple Anatomy Trains
  • Learn how these Anatomy Trains cause pain far from the problem
  • Build skills in 'body-reading' these global patterns in posture and movement
  • Learn to interpret client posture patterns to find the source of their problem
  • Develop strategies for resolving these patterns once detected

Tutor: James Earls has been practicing bodywork for 15 years and has trained in a variety of approaches. He is founder and director of Ultimate Massage Solutions and has trained with Tom Myers, originator of the Anatomy Trains theory, and is a registered teacher of his approach. James has travelled widely to learn from some of the top educators in the field and he now teaches a range of courses for schools in Ireland, the UK and Europe. He has worked at the World Triathlon Championships in Hawaii and been invited to work with Premiership football teams, teaching their sports medicine teams and working on "problem" players. He now specializes in myofascial release and structural integration to rid the body of restrictions and restore the body's natural postural balance.

Gim Postural Assessment

In this workshop we discuss the theories and physiology behind postural deterioration. From this understanding we can relate the changes in movement purity to the muscle chains that provide stability whilst producing force. Using our key movement pattern assessments we can identify and understand how the body compensates for the weakness that inevitably leads to dysfunction and postural changes. These key assessments can then form the foundation of a corrective strategy and effective postural exercise prescription.

This workshop is a must for all industry professionals that are interested in treating postural deterioration. Providing a structured, simplistic and effective approach to postural correction.

Tutor: Jason Anderson presents his concepts and principles at the top fitness conventions in the UK (Fitpro, Loughborough and Multitrax UK) and also of numerous club chains around the world. He is also the Fitness expert, exercise model and regular contributor for Men's fitness & other industry publications. Jason specialises in postural correction, movement dysfunction, joint and back pain, injury rehabilitation and performance conditioning. He currently operates from the Amido club in Hampton, Twickenham www.amidoclubs.com where he runs his successful Personal Training business and acts as a PT Manager for One to One Personal Training.

Who Treats the Therapist? The ‘Therapeutic’ Zone.

How best to avoid burnout, and to work with greater energy, purpose and vitality.

This course is relevant to every therapist, no matter what discipline they are involved in. It is relevant on two counts, the first that being drained by your patients is by no means inevitable. You can be energised at the end of a days work if you follow the simple principles of this course. Secondly, how you interact with your client influences the results you get with that person. This course will improve your treatment outcomes.

What the course develops is the therapeutic zone which equates very well to the sporting zone. As therapists we perform a physical skill like any sportsman or woman. In order for them to attain their optimum performance they have to be focused mentally. The therapeutic zone will optimise your performance as a therapist.

Goals
This practically orientated one day workshop provides an opportunity to :-
Improve your health as a therapist.
Become energised at the end of a days work
Develop light touch palpatory skills in new and exciting way
Enhance the skills you already have
Understand that you are the difference that makes the difference.

Testamonial
‘So good, worth doing twice - rather like New York!
Having partcipated in "The Therapeutic Zone" led by Stuart I can vouch from personal experience that it delivers a huge practical benefit. Fascial Release work around the Thorax with special emphasis on dealing with Idiopathic Scolosis

How can we change a hard and rigid rib cage into a softer and more flexible thoracic basket? How to deal with ankylosing spondylitis, with chronic head forward posture, or with a sunken and curved in chest? Any new insights on how to open the common flatness below the dowagers hump between the shoulder blades? We will explore these questions with lots of practical tools and clinical information. These will be based on fascial anatomy, creative body positioning and active client micromovement participation.

Yet most of the excitement for this workshop comes from its main focus on the enigmatic condition of idiopathic scoliosis. Starting with an evidence based review on the current understanding of the contributing histological, neurological and myofascial/biomechanical factors, as well as involved psychosocial dynamics, Robert will share his large tool kit for working successfully with this fascinating condition. Good chance that you’ll be making scoliosis your most favourite client speciality after this workshop, just as it has been for Robert during the last decade.

Reclaiming the Knees

Have you ever felt at a loss when trying to help clients rehabilitate tricky knee injuries? Have you wished for more specific knowledge as to how to relieve knee pain and trauma? Would you like to be able to teach clients how to better preserve and protect their knees? Students will take away a new model of knee trauma that sees ligamentous damage or strain in context of fascial lines and troubles above and below the knee as well as right in the joint. By relieving these fascial pulls and learning to enhance range of motion through the joint, we’ll give clients the ability to reclaim their knees.
This workshop covers:

Meet Your Body

Noah Karrasch’s recently released book, Meet Your Body: CORE Bodywork and Rolfing Tools To Release Bodymindcore Trauma, (Singing Dragon Press, London and Philadelphia, 2009) is the result of a quarter century’s practice and study of bodies. He has created a model of bodywork and self care based on a simple concept of both oiling the various hinges of the body, and learning to create space between them. If you’ve felt you’d like to have a new way to see and unwind body traumas in clients, or if you’d like to improve your ability to create specific rehabilitative protocols for clients, this class will help.
This workshop covers:
*Study and practice the foundational hinge model from Noah’s book
*Palpate and learn release skills for each hinge.
*Learn to isolate and oil specific hinges though both manipulation and movement; learn to release hinges above or below on the body
*Learn to create client specific assignments and stretched to allow clients to release their own holding patterns.

Body3 Series: Intrinsic Muscles of the Pelvis Intensive

This hands-on workshop explores the logic and application of pelvic biomechanics to assessment and treatment of structrual/postural imbalance. The pelvis joins the legs to the spine and is the "keystone" of human architecture, as well as many feelings, and the site of many traumas for both men and women. The twenty or so deep, intrinsic muscles surrounding the pelvis are arranged in fans that hold these postures as well as feelings. This workshop explores this 'touchy' area with specificity and sensitivity. Come explore these muscles via palpation and manual therapy techniques for finding, stretching, opening and understanding the deep lateral rotators, adductors, groin muscles and the pelvic floor.

Each of the Body3 series is a short intensive course limited to specific anatomy and heavy on manual soft-tissue technique. Each course focuses on 15-20 core 'templates' for technique, which can be applied in different ways for different patterns in your clients. The course fully explain the intent and scope of each move.

Soft Tissue and Movement Strategies for Resolving Trauma to the Limb - An Intergrated Approach for Rehabilitation

We have all dealt with the complex chain of events that occur in the foot, knee, hip, pelvis and resultant strain up the body when our clients injure just one link in the chain. This workshop will examine the kinesiological, myofascial and joint adaptations that impede healing, and will give numerous treatment options to help return the whole chain to normal function.
Specific Agenda:

* Anatomy and kinesiology of the ankle, knee, hip and functional movement analysis to define and correct compensatory patterns resulting from injury
* Soft tissue and osseus strategies to return normal ankle function and better distribute shock
* Techniques to:
* improve flexion and extension
* balance soft tissue torsional strain in the knee
* improve proper joint function through joint mobilisation techniques
* Balancing and mobilising hip rotational and flexion/extension restrictions for optimum transition of movement through the pelvis

Prerequisites: Skills in deep tissue massage and myofascial release work, although experienced bodyworkers without specific MFR training who are accustomed to working with structural issues and injuries are welcome.

The River of Life: Respiratory Enhancement

Breath is the centrepiece of physiology, anatomy, psychology, and somatics. Nothing reveals so much about the client’s state of being as the pattern of the breath. Nothing can change the energy of the client so much as a change in the breath. In this course, we will learn to read these patterns, see where the breath is not happening in either inhale or exhale, and learn touch-cueing and myofascial releases for enhancing the breath. The course includes a comprehensive tour of the anatomy of respiration in the rib cage, diaphragm, pelvis, and neck, and various approaches to what constitutes the ‘proper’ breath - there are many ideas about this from yoga, Alexander Technique, Pilates and others. We will also explore insights into the musical voice, speech, and breath in sport.

Course Dates:

Medical Massage for Lumbar-Pelvis &
Cervical Spine

This 2-day seminar includes:

* Posture Analysis - with emphasis placed on assessing the pelvis, low back and over pronation
* Posterior Lumbar (low back)
* Thigh & Hip
* Cervical Region

This is one great course! Posture analysis places emphasis on assessment of the pelvis, reading pelvic landmarks and learning the significance. Assessment and correction of functional long leg is presented. The postural components of the pronation syndrome is also covered.

All postural muscles (except abdominals) that attach to the pelvis are studied and examined, with emphasis on postural correction and pain reduction. Examination, treatment and stretching are presented for each muscle.

Entire cervical region, posterior, lateral and anterior is studied and examined, including the anterior muscles like longus coli, scalenes, SCM and hyoids.

Course Dates:

20th & 21st March 2010

Time: 09:00 - 17:00
Location: Conel College, Tottenham, London N15 4RU
Cost: £210.00 including VAT Early Bird £190.00

Fascinating Fascia with Robert Schleip

This workshop will focus on fascia as a most fascinating tissue seen through recent scientific discoveries. We will start with the biomechanical properties of fascial tissues. This will address the tensegrity networking nature of fascia, as well its ability to respond to mechanical loading with dynamic changes in water content. We will also explore recent biomechanical insights about the contribution of elastic recoil oscillatory properties of fascia in walking, running and other cyclic movement activities; including practical applications for movement education.

A highlight is, of course, the latest findings from the fascia laboratory at Ulm University, addressing the ability of fascia to actively contract and relax in a smooth muscle like manner, based on the presence of contractile connective tissue cells (myofibroblasts) in fascia. We explore new hypotheses on the relationship between myofibroblast density in fascia and systemic joint hyper-/hypo-mobility, as well as indications on the enhancing/inhibitory effects of various chemical, nutritional and mechanical stimulations on fascial stiffness. Again with practical applications: looking at how can we have long-term effects on tissue stiffness.

Finally this workshop will explore fascia as our richest sensory organ. The four types of fascial mechanoreceptors will be addressed in detail, including guidelines on how to stimulate each of them via therapeutic manual mechanostimulation. The mutually antagonistic relationship between fascial proprioception and myofascial pain will be emphasized. The most recent findings on differences in the sensory innervation of fascia between different persons as well as between different topographical tissues will be included. Specific suggestions will be made about therapeutic avenues to alter brain mapping (body image/ body schema) via proprioceptive fascial stimulation.
