SPORTS CLUBS & TEAMS

Sports Clubs, Organisations & Teams
At the NLSSM we believe that preparing our students to be skilled and competent sports massage therapists is best developed by real life experiences. Hence we have developed some high profile links with a number of sports clubs, corporate organisations and teams such as:

Students will have opportunities to work with the premiereship and reserve teams in pre and post event massage as well as during their training times providing sport & remedial massage to players with and without injuries. You will be working closely with the medical team, physiotherapists and training coaches gaining valuable academic and practical skills.

Sports Events
Other sports massage opportunities will be made available for students to gain valuable massage experience at individual sporting events such as:

Student Clinics
Sports Massage is not necessarily just for those in sport but a typical client base willl be made up of people who are active and not so active. They will have a variety of soft tissue and rehabilitation needs, hence we offer a student massage clinic outside of classroom time. This will give students the opportunity to develop their clinical skills as a sport and remedial massage therapist with a wide range of clientele.

We at NLSSM actively encourage all of our students to cultivate their individual styles and broaden their scope of practice in soft tissue work so as to be able to make an informed choice about the direction in which they may choose to take their skills and work within the sport and remedial massage profession.

Testmonial

Hello Cassandra,

Just an email to report back about the volunteer work with West Ham a couple of weekends ago.

It went really well and hugely enjoyed the experience. The first Saturday was away at Thurrock (met the physio at the ground) and the second Saturday was away at Burton Albion. Got on with the physio really well and the reserve team manager, goalkeeping coach, fitness coach, kitman and press officer were hugely welcoming and grateful too.

I was allowed/asked to do a couple of quick assessments with the physio and generally shadow him too, which was a great experience.

I met the squad at the ground in Thurrock. Away to Burton Albion, I met up with the squad in Waltham for some food before travelling on the team bus to the ground. Everything was supplied for me, food, drink, massage cream, table, free tracksuit, kit to change into for matchtime. It was very much like I was the sports massage therapist representing the club.

It was a hugely worthwhile experience and gave an insight into the workings of professional football physio/sports massage, and I am now looking to further my experience in the area.

Thanks for continuing to send out these opportunities, as I am sure many more people will benefit from it just like I have.

Kind regards, Scott
