Sports Appointed Persons 1st Aid

A course specifically designed for health care workers as well as those in sport. It not only includes the topics required for the appointed person's certificate but is delivered in a sports context. Day one is sufficient for those needing the appointed persons certificate. HSE Approved.

Included in the day:
Refreshments and morning snack, interactive hands on practical training, easy to follow individual course booklet and a recognised certificate valid for 3 years.

Unit 1 - Sport First Aid Emergency Action (7hrs) Content:

  • Safe best practice
  • A systematic approach to incident management
  • Unconsciousness, causes and treatment
  • External bleeding, internal bleeding and shock
  • Resuscitation procedures including choking
  • Awareness of current regulations
  • Optional topics tailored to group

Unit 2 - Sport First Aid Incident Management (7hrs) Content:

  • Roles and responsibilities
  • Sports first aid kit
  • Limb injury
  • Head injury, stroke, eye
  • Neck injury spinal management
  • Torso abdomen
  • Heat & cold illness, burns, blisters, stings, anaphylaxis
  • Common illness, asthma, epilepsy, diabetes
  • Sports specific scenarios - event, training, athlete team rescues
  • Post traumatic stress

This award supports all Coaches and Instructors in Sport, Exercise, Recreation and Fitness. The activity of leisure centres, travel and tourism guides, teachers and youth leaders, schools and youth organisations are also enhanced. Within the field of first aid training this award could be a building block towards advanced first aid or an essential first step to becoming a self-employed ITC Provider or freelance First Aid Trainer.

About the Tutor

Charles Holmes, a qualified ITEC massage therapist (since 1990), completed a course in myofascial release at LSSM, HSE First Aid instructor, trained as a paramedic at Hertfordshire University.

Jenny Pugh is an adventure sports woman, Professional Kinesiology Practitioner and member of the British Register of Complementary Practitioners. She has been delivering first aid courses specific to sports and the outdoors since 2006 and together herself and Charles run React First - First Aid Training providing specialised and health and safety first aid training.
