To be eligible, students must:
- Have successfully completed a Level 3 course with a minimum of 2 years experience.
- Have continued to do advanced CPD courses.
- Be working full or part time as a soft tissue therapist.
- Hold a current first aid certificate.
- Have appropriate insurance.
- Be a member of a professional associaton.
Application process
NLSSM Bridging Programs are specifically designed for you. We do this by building on your strengths and experience and addressing your individual needs, allowing you to upgrade your skills and gain a higher professional qualification. The syllabus is only a guideline and should there be any courses in which you have already taken at an advanced level we will considered these for exemption when applying.
The following courses can be taken in any order. We do however recommend that you take the Sports Massage Refresher weekend prior to embarking on MET and STR classes.
- Sports Massage Refresher - Deep Tissue Massage
- Muscle Energy Technique - PIR (MET)
- Muscle Energy Technique - RI (MET)
- Soft Tissue Release (STR)
- Postural Assessment
- Stretch Workshop
- Introduction to Neuromuscular Techniques (NMT)
- Biomechanics

In addition to the practical workshops each candidate will need to complete the following prior to taking their final BTEC level 5 Sports and Remedial Massage exams:
- 4 Written assignments
- 1 in depth case study
- 100 log book hours

Home study course
Marking of written assignments
Final practical and written exams
A practical clinical day in preparation for your exams
Access to online student resource centre
The ability to participate in student clinics and work experience, as well as event work.
The use of the NLSSM student library which includes books, periodicals and DVD's
Regular student newsletters and job offers
Other Options
You can take the above suggested workshops without having to register for BTEC at this time. When you are ready to do the course work etc then you can send in your CPD/Bridging Application. Meanwhile you can build up your portfolio so when the time comes you have already done some of the required practical days.
